Privacy Policy for MyBodyQuest

Effective Date: October 26, 2026

Welcome to MyBodyQuest! Your privacy is incredibly important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS and Android mobile applications and our website at mybodyquest.com (collectively, the "App"). MyBodyQuest is operated by Dave Weizenegger ("we," "us," or "our"), who is responsible for your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

To provide fitness tracking, nutrition tracking, gamification, social features, and AI coaching, we collect the following types of information:

Account Information: When you register, we collect your email address, password (stored only in hashed form), and optionally your first and last name, username, profile photo, and bio.

Sign-In Providers: If you sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and a unique account identifier from that provider. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive an Apple relay address instead. We never receive your password for those services.

Health and Fitness Data: Data you enter in the App, including body weight, height, body measurements (such as waist, chest, arm, and leg measurements), sex, date of birth, activity level, fitness goals, workouts (exercises, sets, weights, reps, durations, and distances), and personal records. We do not currently read data from Apple Health, Google Health Connect, or wearable devices.

Nutrition Data: Foods and meals you log, custom foods you create, calorie and macronutrient goals, and the food search terms and barcode numbers you enter or scan.

Photos: Progress photos and profile photos you choose to upload, along with any captions, tags, and the visibility setting you choose (Public, Followers, or Private). We only access your camera or photo library when you choose to take or select a photo. The camera is also used, only while you have the scanner open, to read food barcodes.

Voice Input: If you tap the microphone when describing a meal or workout, the App uses your device's speech recognition (Apple Speech Recognition on iOS, Google speech services on Android) to turn what you say into text. Your audio may be processed by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies. We do not receive or store audio recordings, only the resulting text, which you can review and edit before it is used. The microphone is accessed only while you are dictating.

AI Coach Interactions: When you use our AI Coach, or the Describe a Meal and Describe a Workout features, we collect the messages or descriptions you send and the AI's responses. To personalize advice, relevant fitness and nutrition data from your account (such as recent workouts, goals, and logged meals) is included with your request.

Social and Community Data: Users you follow and who follow you, comments, likes, challenges you create or accept, and your experience points, levels, coins, badges, quests, and leaderboard rankings. If you block a user or report content, we keep a record of the block or report (including a copy of the reported content) to enforce it and to keep the community safe; reports are never shown to the person you reported.

Feedback and Support: Messages you send us through in-app feedback or email.

Subscription Data: Your subscription plan, status, and renewal or expiration date. Payments are processed by Apple (App Store), Google (Google Play), or Lemon Squeezy (website). We never receive or store your full payment card details.

Device and Technical Data: A push notification token (if you allow notifications), your time zone, your device type and operating system, and IP addresses recorded in standard server logs for security and troubleshooting.

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or your device's advertising identifier, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data only to operate and improve the MyBodyQuest experience:

  • To Provide the Service: To create and maintain your account, track your workouts, nutrition, and measurements, and show your progress.
  • To Power the AI Coach: To generate personalized fitness and nutrition guidance in response to your questions.
  • For Gamification and Social Features: To award points, coins, badges, and quests, run challenges, calculate leaderboard rankings, and show your profile, posts, and photos to other users according to your settings.
  • To Communicate With You: To send account emails (such as email verification and password resets) and push notifications you have allowed (such as follow requests and approvals, and challenge updates). You can turn off push notifications at any time in your device settings.
  • To Process Subscriptions: To verify your subscription and unlock premium features.
  • For Safety and Security: To prevent fraud, cheating, and abuse, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
  • To Improve Our App: To fix bugs and develop new features.

Health and fitness data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with data brokers. We do not show third-party ads in the App.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only in the following circumstances:

With Other Users: Your username, avatar, bio, level, and leaderboard stats are visible to other users. Workouts, meals, photos, comments, and challenges you share are visible according to the visibility settings you choose (Public, Followers, or Private). Content marked Private is visible only to you.

With Service Providers: We use the following providers to run the App. They may process your data only on our behalf, only as needed to provide their service to us, and are required to protect it with safeguards at least as protective as those described in this policy:

  • Amazon Web Services: Data storage, photo storage and delivery, and transactional email.
  • Amazon Bedrock (AI provider): Processes AI Coach messages, Describe a Meal and Describe a Workout descriptions, and the fitness context included with them to generate responses. Amazon does not use this data to train its AI models.
  • Railway and Vercel: Application and website hosting.
  • Apple, Google, and Lemon Squeezy: Payment processing for subscriptions.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription status management for the mobile apps. RevenueCat receives an app user ID and your purchase history, not your health data.
  • Apple and Google speech recognition: Convert your voice to text when you use voice input, if you choose to use it.
  • Apple, Google, and Facebook (Meta): Account sign-in, if you choose to use it.
  • Expo, Apple Push Notification service, and Firebase Cloud Messaging: Delivery of push notifications.
  • FatSecret: Food database search. Only your search terms and scanned barcode numbers are sent, not your identity or account data.

For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, in response to valid requests by public authorities, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of MyBodyQuest, our users, or others.

Business Transfers: If MyBodyQuest is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and this policy will continue to apply to it.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active.

Deleting Your Account: You can delete your account at any time from within the App (Me → Settings → Delete Account) or by emailing us at the address below. When you delete your account, it is deactivated immediately and is no longer visible to other users. Within 30 days we permanently delete your personal data, including your profile, workouts, nutrition logs, measurements, photos, AI Coach conversations, comments, and social connections.

We may retain limited information after deletion only where required by law (for example, tax or transaction records) or to prevent fraud and abuse. Copies in backups are overwritten in the ordinary course within 30 days.

Subscriptions: Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription purchased through the App Store or Google Play. Please cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings to avoid further charges.

5. How We Protect Your Data

We use commercially reasonable security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, secure token storage on your device, and access controls on our servers and storage. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California), you may have the following rights regarding your data:

Access and Portability: You can request a copy of the personal and fitness data we hold about you.

Correction: You can edit your profile, measurements, logs, and account information directly within the App.

Deletion: You can delete your account in the App or request deletion by email, as described in Section 4.

Visibility Controls: You can set your workouts, meals, and photos to Public, Followers-only, or Private, and require approval before others can follow you.

Withdrawing Consent: You can revoke camera, photo library, microphone, speech recognition, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings, and you can withdraw permission to share data with our AI provider at any time in the App (Me → Settings → AI Data Sharing) or on the website (Profile → AI Data Sharing).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

7. International Data Transfers

MyBodyQuest is operated from the United States, and your data is stored and processed in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

8. Children's Privacy

MyBodyQuest is not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we learn that someone under 16 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe someone under 16 has provided us with information, please contact us.

9. Cookies

Our website uses cookies and similar browser storage. See our Cookie Policy for details. The mobile apps do not use cookies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Effective Date" at the top. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email before they take effect.
